Summer Safety – Swimming and Beach Products

We hope you get out and have a fun day at the beach or your local pool. We found a few products to help you have a fun and safe summer!

Individuals with Angelman Syndrome have an attraction to water.  Unfortunately, they do not understand the dangers that can happen if left unattended. Don’t let this discourage you from water activities, instead, just take a few extra precautions and enjoy your time. Our Angels love water activities.

Here are some tips to help keep everyone safe:

-Learn water safety as a family. This will help prepare everyone for this day. Check with your local parks and recreation centers for classes near you.

-As soon as you arrive at the location, put the safety vest on them. It is important to even wear the vest in shallow water. Kid size vests are easy to find, it is most challenging to find a Coast Guard Approved / Personal Floatation Device, but we found one for you!

-The more, the merrier. Many of our Angels are social and love being around people. As long as they do not become overwhelmed or anxious with groups of people, ask your friends and family to help you keep eyes on your child so they are always safe. I know that it is our responsibility as parents but it just takes one second to turn into a dangerous situation.

We hope you have a wonderful and safe time in the water this summer!
